ESL One Hamburg 2017 receives Major status
ESL One Hamburg to be the 3rd Major on European soil and second one in Germany

We're excited to announce that ESL One Hamburg powered by Intel has attained Major status as part of the new tournament ruleset from Valve for the 2017-2018 competitive season! This makes ESL One Hamburg the first announced Major of the season and second one ever to take place in Germany, after the Frankfurt Major in 2015.

The original prize pool for the tournament has been adjusted accordingly from $250,000 to a smooth $1,000,000, with both Valve and ESL providing $500,000 each, making it the most lucrative ESL One tournament yet for Dota 2.

In accordance with the new Competitive Season regulations, of the eight teams attending two will be directly invited by ESL, while the remaining six will be determined through regional qualifiers for each primary region - NA, SA, SEA, CN, EU and CIS. This will give us the chance to see the best of the best from the South American region live at ESL One for the very first time and we can't wait to welcome all the new faces into the Barclaycard Arena from October 28-29.

As part of the 2017 - 2018 Competitive Season, the ESL One Hamburg Major will award players with Qualifying Points (QP) based on the final standings, which are necessary to determine the direct invites to The International 8 next year. As we get closer to TI8, the top three ranked players in each team will determine the effective QP of said team. This new system allows players to transfer teams between roster lock periods, while still retaining their achievements from their previous organisation(s).

But wait, there's more! ESL One Hamburg will be the first of the three Majors ESL will host in the upcoming season. To add even more to that, we will also be hosting one Minor which all in all gives us a fantastic opportunity to deliver more of world-class Dota 2 action and experiences than we ever had before. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled to our social channels mentioned below, as we unveil details about the rest of the Majors, and the Minor, in the near future.
