Announcing the ESL One Genting groups and first matches
The ESL One Genting groups were drawn - check out who’s facing who to start the event.

ESL One Genting is less than a month away and it’s time for the teams to prepare for their respective group matchups. With some of the best teams from every region ready to tackle the newly released 7.00 patch, we’re bound to have our minds blown by whatever crazy new strategies the teams come up with.

Similar to past ESL One events, teams will undergo a double elimination group stage to determine the main event matchups. Check out the groups and their initial matches below.

Group A

  • Virtus.Pro vs Fnatic
  • Newbee vs Team NP

In group A, Virtus.Pro will be looking to reclaim their favorite status after their untimely exit in the quarterfinals of the Boston Major. Facing them will be fellow Boston Major top 8 finishers Team NP, as well as Chinese giants Newbee and the to-be-announced new squad from Fnatic. It’s hard to predict which team will best adapt to the new patch, but we are sure to see some closely contested matches in this group.

Group B

  • Digital Chaos vs Execration
  • Wings Gaming vs tbd (Malaysian qualifier team)

Based on their Boston Major performance, Digital Chaos with their top 4 finish may come into ESL One Genting as favorites, but since patch 7.00 is an entirely new ballgame anything can happen. Wings Gaming will be eager to bounce back from recent underwhelming performances while Execration will be more than ready to show the world why they were an initial direct invite to Boston. And it would be foolish to underestimate the yet to-be-determined Malaysian team that will round out group B, as it’s all about figuring out the new patch as fast a possible and all the team will be capable of taking games of each other.
