Recapping the qualifiers for the MSI Gaming Arena 2018 at ESL One New York 2018

After an intense Open Qualifier phase we have determined the four teams who will be fighting for the MSI Gaming Arena (MGA) trophy at ESL One New York 2018, as well as the US$60,000 prize pool.

Close to 700 teams signed up for the various regional qualifiers, but only one team each from Europe, CIS, North America and APAC has braved the qualifier gauntlet and we’re looking forward to seeing them all in action in the Barclays Center from September 29-30.

Europe
Qualified Team: Movistar Riders

Movistar Riders only just made it to the European Qualifiers by bullying their way through the Last Chance Qualifiers. But it’s certainly no surprise to see them go all the way and represent  EU at the MGA. Lead by former OpTic Gaming AWPer mixwell and supported by the likes of loWel, the all Spanish squad is one of the front runners to win it all in New York.

CIS
Qualified Team: AVANGAR

The Kazak team, lead by Russian captain Jame, will be representing the CIS after a confident performance all throughout the qualifiers. In both the first CIS Qualifier, as well as the final Playoffs it would be Syman Gaming and MAKEKiSTAKE that would present the final hurdles for AVANGAR. But Jame & Co would not be denied as they steamrolled through both teams convincingly with 2-0.

North America
Qualified Team: compLexity Gaming

The North American Qualifiers were all but easy for compLexity. While stanislaw’s team managed to secure their spot at the MGA in New York, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for them. Both Vision Gaming and eUnited proved to be stiff competition in the Playoffs, taking coL to three maps. But thanks to strong performances in Inferno in both third maps they managed to book their trip to New York where they will get to enjoy the home court advantage.

Asia
Qualified Team: eUnited (replacing 5Power Gaming)

After having a chance to showcase their skills at IEM Shanghai 2018,  5Power Gaming managed to finish in 1st place of the Asian qualifiers for yet another opportunity at international competition. Unfortunately it wasn't possible for the team to make the trip to New York for the LAN finals. As a short-term replacement, NA Qualifier 2nd place eUnited will be filling in for them at ESL One New York 2018. They've already shown great promise in the qualifiers and can now crown their run with a title.
