The group stages of ESL One New York 2019 have concluded where four teams remain competing for the $200,000 prize and to be crowned champions on US soil at the Barclays Center arena. Contributing to an Intel Grand Slam tick the four teams remaining consist of Team Liquid, G2 Esports, Evil Geniuses and Astralis.
The diverse group stages saw mixed results as NRG Esports introduced their rebranding under the Evil Geniuses banner, Brazilian legend coldzera debuted alongside broky representing FaZe Clan and sunNy entered the tournament with ENCE standing as his first event with the Finnish side. ESL One New York 2019 has also introduced the services of kioShiMa standing in for G2 Esports and freakazoid competing in his first event with eUnited alongside his brother Cooper-. With the finals split into a fifty-fifty of European & North American talent, it is seemingly possible ESL One New York might just behold an American Grand Final showdown in the Barclays Center!

Shaky Upon Arrival
The expected yet revered announcement of coldzera debuting at ESL One New York 2019 hexxed fans with hype leading into the first day of the group stages. The multicultural blend of superstars offered signs of struggle losing their initial BO3 to Evil Geniuses and thereafter suffering another beating at the hands of unexpected victors OpTic Gaming. Albeit coldzera received his 3rd negative event rating and unfortunately his lowest career rating as of yet, young comer broky held his own topping the FaZe Clan roster with 38 total frags and the only positive rating (1.11) on the whole side during the series defeat to EG.
It’s evident FaZe Clan simply need more time to practice and get settled into their new and exciting roster, ENCE displayed similar characteristics in their matches. The Finns offered varied results narrowly losing to G2 in their opener [17:19 & 14:16] thereafter cruising past eUnited 2:0. Greeting G2 once more in their elimination decider series, the Finns couldn’t outclass the French roster led by stand-in kioShiMa finding themselves sent packing 17:19, 16:11 & 11:16.
The Fifty-Fifty Conundrum
Both Astralis & G2 Esports secured 2 of the 4 total play off slots defending the strength of the European region however Team Liquid & Evil Geniuses are determined to keep the American fans and nation proud. Recent Major champions Astralis stampeded OpTiC Gaming in their opening series 2:0 however were derailed by Evil Geniuses 0:2 in the following series. Irrespective of the loss, Astralis met their Danish counterparts once more in the elimination decider series confidently securing their play offs position 16:6 & 16:7.
The Semifinals will consist of Team Liquid vs Astralis and given the pair met recently at the Berlin Major where Astralis toppled the Americans 16:13 & 16:8 eliminating Team Liquid from the Quarter Finals we’ve no doubt the world’s Major champions and world’s No. 1 team in the world battle-royale will deliver. G2 Esports will face Evil Geniuses and should hold confidence as the last time the two titans met was the ESL Pro League S9 Finals where G2 won 2:1 over the former NRG Esports squad.
